More Than a Gaming Floor

Gaming, Dining and Entertainment in One Downtown Destination

Elbow River Casino presents itself as a Vegas-style casino experience, but the property is designed as more than a place to gamble. Its official site combines casino gaming with dining, live entertainment and other visitor experiences.

The casino is located at 218 18 Avenue SE in Calgary, close to the Stampede Grounds and Victoria Park train station. It is also associated with the Red Mile and the 17th Avenue retail and entertainment district, placing it in one of Calgary's best-known nightlife and entertainment areas.

This central location helps distinguish Elbow River from a more isolated casino destination: visitors can combine a casino visit with restaurants, entertainment and other attractions in the surrounding district.

Central Calgary Location

The casino sits just a block from the Stampede Grounds and close to Victoria Park station, with easy access from the 17th Avenue and MacLeod Trail area.

Part of the Red Mile

The official site identifies Elbow River Casino as part of Calgary's “Red Mile” 17th Avenue entertainment district, an area known for restaurants, nightlife and major event activity.

Vegas-Style Casino Format

Elbow River describes its gaming experience as Vegas-style, combining slots, live table games, poker and off-track betting with dining and entertainment under one roof.

Recognized Locally

The casino notes that it was previously voted “Best Place to Gamble” in FFWD's Best of Calgary readers poll, a local recognition referenced on its official About page.

17th Avenue Entertainment District

More Than Just a Casino Visit

Elbow River Casino's official site places strong emphasis on its entertainment setting. Alongside gaming, visitors can find dining, comedy and live music, including local bands scheduled on Friday and Saturday nights.

The casino also references Yuk Yuk's Comedy Club as part of its wider entertainment offering. These features position the property as a broader night-out destination rather than a gaming-only venue.

Community & Giving

Part of Alberta's Charitable Gaming Model

Elbow River Casino operates within Alberta's charitable gaming model. According to the casino, net proceeds are shared with charitable organizations licensed by AGLC, and those organizations reinvest their portion into projects and services in the Calgary community.

The casino also highlights community involvement by its employees, including initiatives such as food bank donations and seasonal gifts for local families.

Off-Track Betting

Horse Racing Action Beyond the Casino Floor

Elbow River Casino includes a dedicated off-track betting experience for horse racing fans, with a racing theatre designed for watching and wagering on races in a separate environment from the main slot and table game areas.

Racing Theatre

A Dedicated Space for Horse Racing

Off-track betting at Elbow River Casino is more than just another electronic gaming option. The casino promotes a dedicated racing theatre where visitors can follow horse racing broadcasts and place wagers away from the traditional casino tables and slot machines.

The official site describes the facility as one of Calgary's leading off-track betting locations and emphasizes the volume of race coverage shown at the property.

Format Off-Track Betting
Viewing Area Dedicated Racing Theatre
Focus Horse Racing

Race Wagering

Visitors can use the off-track betting facility to wager on horse races without having to attend the racetrack itself.

Racing Theatre

The betting area is built around a dedicated racing theatre, giving guests a place to watch the action rather than relying only on a small terminal or standard casino screen.

Extensive Race Coverage

Elbow River Casino states that it shows more races than anywhere else in Calgary, making the facility a notable destination for visitors specifically interested in horse racing.

Different from Casino Tables

A Separate Type of Wagering Experience

Off-track betting is distinct from the casino's live table games, poker room and slot machines. Instead of playing against a dealer, house or other poker players, guests are following horse racing events and placing wagers based on race outcomes.

Race Schedules Can Vary

Race availability depends on the racing schedule being shown at the property. Elbow River Casino notes that current on-site information takes precedence over discrepancies in information published online.

Betting Limits & Playing Budget

Understanding the Published Table Limits

Elbow River Casino publishes different minimum and maximum betting ranges for its live table games. These limits help first-time visitors compare lower-stakes options with games that also support significantly higher wagers.

Before You Choose a Table

Betting Ranges Vary by Game

There is no single minimum bet that applies to the entire live gaming floor. Each game uses its own published betting range, and Roulette even separates inside and outside betting limits.

Based on the limits currently published by Elbow River Casino, lower-entry options begin at $1 on Roulette inside bets, while Baccarat reaches the highest published maximum at $12,000.

Blackjack is specifically promoted with both low-limit and high-limit play, making it one of the clearest examples of a game designed for different betting levels.

Lowest Published Bet $1 Roulette inside bets
Highest Published Maximum $12,000 Baccarat
Low / High Limit Blackjack Specifically identified by the casino
Game Minimum Maximum Notes
Baccarat $5 $12,000

Regular and Handheld Baccarat with Dragon and Panda side bets.

Both low-limit and high-limit Blackjack are advertised.

Roulette – Inside $1 $50

Applies to inside wagers on specific numbers or combinations.

Roulette – Outside $10 $1,000

Applies to broader outside wagers such as red or black.

Tile Pai Gow $10 $1,000

The official site also states that the table opens daily at 1 PM.

Ultimate Texas Hold’em – Ante / Blind $5 $100

Main published betting range for Ante and Blind wagers.

Ultimate Texas Hold’em – Trips $5 $25

Optional Trips side wager rather than the main game bet.

Lower Published Entry

Roulette Inside Bets

With a published minimum of $1, inside Roulette bets have the lowest stated starting amount among the live table limits listed by the casino.

Flexible Range

Blackjack

Blackjack is explicitly described as offering both low-limit and high-limit play, with published table limits from $5 to $1,000.

Highest Published Range

Baccarat

Baccarat has the highest published maximum among the listed live table games, with a stated betting range from $5 up to $12,000.

Important for First-Time Visitors

A Published Minimum Is Not a Recommended Budget

The amounts above describe individual published betting limits, not how much money a visitor should bring or expect to spend. A $5 minimum, for example, means the listed minimum wager for that game or betting position — it does not represent the total cost of a full gaming session.

Limits and Table Availability May Change

Published ranges should be treated as a guide rather than a guarantee that every table will be operating at every listed minimum or maximum. Elbow River Casino states that information may change and that current house information supersedes discrepancies published online.
